Founded by Master Manisekaran, Persatuan Yoga Malaysia or The Malaysian Yoga Society (MYS) was formally established as a mental and physical health oriented humanitarian organization in November 2004. Non-sectarian in nature, the Malaysian Yoga Society is purely in pursuit of creating awareness and understanding of yoga as a science of holistic self-development for individuals in society through teaching practice and various related charitable activities for the underprivileged and socially disadvantaged. The Malaysian Yoga Society aims to do this through teaching and practice, and various other related charitable activities.

To date, the MYS has successfully organized various charity events and programmes such as:

  1. Yoga competition 2007 - a fund raising event open to all Yoga practitioners (old and young) from all over Malaysia.
  2. Charity Food Fair in 2006 - to raise funds for a Yoga Home (now a reality in Batu Arang) for underprivileged children.
  3. Yoga Competition in 2005 with Sekolah Jenis Kebangsaan (Tamil) Kinrara, Puchong.
  4. Annual Fund Raising Dinner 2005
  5. Visiting and conducting free yoga classes at:
    • prisons - Kajang prison, Sungai Buloh prison.
    • non-profit organizations - National Cancer Society
    • Cancerlink Foundation
    • YWCA K.L.
    • schools - Kinrara Tamil School (Primary), Puchong School; Efigham Tamil School Damansara, SRJK (T) Sg. Renggam - Shah Alam.
    • orphanages and underprivileged children's homes - Anbuillam Boys' Home, Taman Melawati; Desa Mentari children, Jalan Klang Lama, Karunai Illam Girl's Home, Kepong; Sri Sai Ashram, Bamboo Garden, Jalan Ipoh, Rumah Hope, Taman Paramount, PJ (Home for neglected and abused children), Rumah Charis, Taman Lucky, KL., Pertubuhan Kebajikan Agathians Malaysia.

The establishment of a Yoga Home for underprivileged children recently became a reality on 1st January 2008. Situated in the idyllic town of Batu Arang, the home organises home-stay programmes to provide dormitories and systematically assist socially disadvantaged children, single parents or disabled individuals. The children are enrolled in nearby schools to obtain basic formal education while the adults are offered special skill-for-meal programmes where living skills are taught to help them become self sufficient. Yoga lessons are also routinely incorporated in their daily learning to help them gain clarity and balance mentally and emotionally. The ultimate aim is to instill confidence in them to lead a more positive role when they return to society.
