Guru Purnima Celebration

Guru Purnima was recently celebrated by MYS on 18th July 2008. The purpose of this special day is for the yoga students to reflect on and honour the invaluable knowledge ingrained in their life through the "Guru / Teacher / Mentor" within themselves and also the lessons imparted to them by Master Mani, Acharyas and fellow Instructors over time. This will bring about realization for scope of improvement which in turn will bring humility to oneself.

GURU is a tatva - an element, a quality inside you. It is not limited to a body or form.

Lessons of the Decades

(dedicated to the mentors, teachers over the years and Guru, the spark of Light within you and me)

As I turn the pages of my book of lessons

learned over the decades

it reads like each decade

is represented by the page of a single day

Oh, how the time has flown…

Page 1

My mother taught me the lesson

that riches and learned knowledge

did not mean everything…

I could not understand

Page 2

My grandmother taught me the lesson

to choose happiness

and not what was expected…

I did not know how

Page 3

I learned from a teacher

that one can be joyful in teaching

For the first time

I was inspired to teach one day…

I did not know what

Page 4

A mentor then showed me that

in every person there was

a diamond in the rough

to polish

till it sparkled and dazzled

I watched and observed

Then I wandered aimlessly

for the following years of this fourth page

Searching and searching

to find the way

to piece all these lessons of the decades together

Was it a pin hole of light

in the darkness of wandering

that I finally found?

I knew not then

I only knew to follow

that faint, faint glow

As I turn the leaf of the 5th page.

In hibernation, I was

as those lessons of each page

seeped deep into my soul

I remained safe inside this cocoon

woven around me

by the faint, faint glow

Day by day the glow

shone stronger and stronger

Till one day

became a burst of brilliance!

As the silken thread unwound

from around this cocoon

emerged the diamond

that is rough no more

Hardened and honed

this gem sparkles and dazzles

reflecting the ray of brilliant light

that pieced the lessons of each page together

Now,

on the 5th page

a rainbow of light

is deflected off the facets

within this rock

that is rough no more

Shining lessons upon

all who yearned to learn

I salute that light from within you

I salute the light that is also in me

that was sparked through you

Namaskar dearest Teachers, Mentors and Guru

Namaskar to all

AUM…
